Congratulations to these exceptional Blue Valley School District educators, who were nominated by their students to be recognized as "2024 Celebrated Teachers" during Teacher Appreciation Week!

Students Heart Teachers, Inc., founded by a Blue Valley North student, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting, encouraging, and advocating for public school teachers through appreciation events, student-to-teacher outreach, and ongoing community education addressing the teacher shortage crisis. Simply put, we LOVE our TEACHERS and understand their importance in our success.

Great teachers quietly inspire and motivate students daily, and we want our community to know about their memorable impact! There are so many extraordinary professional educators we could spotlight, and we plan to. These teachers are the first class of many to come! Congratulations!

Read their "Spotlights" and get to know these fantastic teachers.

A new study by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) found Kansas had the second-highest rate of teachers leaving the profession in the nation, something Students Heart Teachers, Inc. recognized two years ago and was the impetus behind our founding.

When we ask teachers, they tell us they love teaching but mention one or several reasons for considering leaving the profession. Unrealistic expectations, low salaries, constant criticism, and hostility from political factions have taken their toll.

Finding a solution is difficult because, as Ashley Woo, coauthor and assistant policy researcher for RAND, explains, "The survey shows that pay, hours worked, and working conditions are interrelated, suggesting that pay increases alone—without improvements in working hours or conditions—are unlikely to bring about large shifts in teachers' well-being or intentions to leave the profession."

Student Heart Teachers is focused on doing our part to make students aware of the teacher shortage crisis and how it impacts their future. We also show teachers how much students appreciate them. However, large-impactful change will take a shift in how the larger community understands the important contributions teachers make every day in classrooms.

Black Teachers Are Working More for Less - Word In Black. https://wordinblack.com/2023/09/black-teachers-are-working-more-for-less/

October marks the celebration of a special group of leaders in our community – our school principals. These dedicated individuals play a pivotal role in shaping our students’ futures and the trajectory of our education system.

Students Heart Teachers is excited to join the month-long National Principals Month celebration as an opportunity to recognize and thank our principals for their unwavering dedication, exceptional leadership, and remarkable impact on student success.

We encourage you to join us and educational organizations nationwide like AFSA, NAESP, and NASSP as we acknowledge the tireless efforts of these unsung heroes. Share your appreciation using the hashtag #ThankAPrincipal on social media, and visit principalsmonth.org for more resources and ways to get involved.

Let’s come together to celebrate the extraordinary individuals at the helm of our schools and the difference they make every day in transforming our communities.
